Living History events held in Nevada City are themed interpretive weekends where each weekend event is based upon happenings in the past of Alder Gulch.

Ives was tried and convicted of robbing and killing the popular young "Dutchman" Nicholas Tibalt. The trial took place outdoors on the frosty 21st day of December in 1863. The trial, conducted by prosecutor Wilbur Fisk Sanders, lasted three days. Ives was hanged from the rafter of an unfinished building after the jury deliberated less than an hour. Join us as our Living History interpreters bring to life those fateful moments in December of 1863 and interpret the story of Alder Gulch - Wheelwright
The George Ives Trial & Hanging will be held on both Saturday & Sunday.
The Montana Heritage Commission brings you "The George Ives Trial, "a
dynamic 90-minute event that reflects Nevada City's role in one of the
territory's defining historical periods. Saturday and Sunday, the area
behind the Sedman House comes alive as you become a part of the trial of
George Ives. Witness the murder trial and execution of the murderer of the young Dutchman Nicholas Tibalt.
